School 1888 | Algemene Reken Kamer (Chamber of Audit)

This 1887 building was designed by architect Antoine Martis; it is located at Wilhelminastraat 2 in Oranjestad. The building has a protected monument status and it currently houses the Chamber of Audit of Aruba. Previously this building housed a school, library, the chamber of audit and the Ministry of Culture. During the renovation of the nearby wedding hall, in 2004, it served in that capacity temporarily.

The initiative for the restoration came from the ‘Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba’ (Foundation Memorial Fund Aruba); the coordination of the restoration was in hands of the ‘Monumentenbureau Aruba’ (Monument Office Aruba) and the architect was Ing. B. Kamsteeg of BK Consult.

School 1888 is not open to public.
