Fort Zoutman
Wilem III tower and Fort Zoutman | Zoutmanstraat z/n, Oranjestad
The Willem III Tower has been a prominent landmark in Aruba since the year 1868. The building is a proposed monument. In the past it served as a lighthouse; today it houses the Historical Museum.
The military fort was built in 1798 by architects of the ‘Comite Militaire’ (military committee), but it has been a long time ago that the fort had a military function.
The restoration of the William III Tower and Fort Zoutman took place on the initiative of the ‘Stichting Monumentenzorg’ (Heritage Foundation) and was led by architect ir. Matthew of Plan D’2.
The Willem III Tower and Fort Zoutman are open to the public.
