Cunukero’s are happy: Windmill to Pos Grandi is operational again!

Pos grandiflora, the windmill Pos Grandi (next to La Granja) is operational again! For several months the windmill Pos Grandi was not working properly. Monument Fund foundation Aruba received several calls asking them to repair that specific windmill and also the one at Sabana Liber. The continuing drought and the resulting high water bills were a concern for the ‘cunukero’s’. Groundwater is used to irrigate vegetable crops and fruit trees in the countryside (Cunucu). Monument Fund foundation Aruba is not only responsible for the maintenance and management of buildings, but also for these two groundwater pumping windmills.

From director Lewis Romondt we received notice that windmill Pos Grandi was again operational. Monument Fund foundation Aruba thanks Julio Koolman for his help in arranging the necessary parts being flown in from Curaçao, Roland Lejeuz and Yvonne Webb, director and other staff of the Monument Office Aruba for their advice and assistance in getting the windmill working again. A request goes out to everyone who uses this facility to use the proper hose (before using smear the hose with grease and clean it afterwards). This extends the durability of the windmill and allows everyone to make use of groundwater for usage in the Cunucu. Maintenance and parts are expensive, hence the request to be careful with the windmill.

Once the windmill in Sabana Liber will be up and running again, we shall send out an announcement.
